2. Job Purpose

Responsible for supervising all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) activities at the solar power plant. Ensures compliance with local regulations, company policies, and international standards to provide a safe working environment. Oversees the implementation of HSE procedures, conducts inspections, manages PPE distribution, supervises contractors, and provides training to site staff. Supports emergency response, audits, and reporting to drive continuous improvement in safety culture at the plant.

4. Key Accountabilities

HSE Management

  • Implement and monitor the site HSE management system in compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to risk assessments, method statements, and permit-to-work systems.
  • Conduct daily toolbox talks, safety inductions, and awareness sessions for employees and contractors.
  • Supervise compliance with PPE usage and ensure proper issuance, inspection, and replacement cycles.
  • Perform regular safety inspections of solar fields, substations, warehouses, and offices.
  • Ensure firefighting and first aid equipment is inspected and maintained.

Incident & Emergency Response

  • Lead emergency response drills and ensure readiness of site emergency plans.
  • Record, investigate, and report near misses, unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and incidents.
  • Recommend corrective and preventive actions to management.

Compliance & Documentation

  • Maintain HSE records including training logs, inspection reports, incident reports, and PPE issuance.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO standards (ISO 45001, ISO 14001, etc.).
  • Assist in internal and external HSE audits.
  • Support reporting to local authorities and regulatory bodies as required.

Training & Awareness

  • Provide training on safe work practices, PPE use, electrical safety, working at height, confined space, and other solar-specific hazards.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through campaigns, posters, and regular engagement.

Coordination & Support

  • Coordinate with O&M, Electrical, Civil, and Procurement teams to ensure safe execution of site activities.
  • Verify contractor compliance with site safety requirements before mobilization.
  • Support procurement by reviewing HSE requirements in PRs/POs for safety materials and PPE.

Health, Safety, Security & Environment (HSSE)

  • Enforce safe working practices across the plant.
  • Ensure environmental compliance in handling of waste, chemicals, oils, and solar PV modules.
  • Promote hazard reporting and continuous improvement in HSE culture.

5. Communication & Working Relationships

Internal: O&M, Maintenance, Procurement, Finance, and HSE teams.

External: Contractors, suppliers, and regulatory authorities.

6. Qualifications, Experience, & Skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of HSE supervision experience in solar power plants or utility-scale projects.
  • Diploma / Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
  • NEBOSH / IOSH / OSHA certification (mandatory).
  • First Aid and Firefighting training (preferred).

Skills:

  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and HSE reporting tools.
  • Ability to conduct risk assessments and prepare method statements.
  • Knowledge of PPE standards and procurement processes.
  • Good command of English (written and spoken).
  • Teamwork and ability to influence safe behavior at all levels.
